There seem to be plenty of new plays this year, which i am sure made a lot of madden gamers happy, however the lack of new formations really jumps out.  Their are very few new formations this year, but because of the  big addition of the wildcat and pistol formation, you wont see many gamers complaining.

The big dissappointment with offensive playbooks was the pistol formation.  The pistol only has 1 formation (Pistol Twin Te)  with a mere 9 plays in the entire game and is only found in 1 playbook.  The wildcat seems to be living up to everyones expectations so far in the released demos and now the new playbooks.  The wildcat, in some way, shape or form, is in 9 different team’s playbook.  It appears that they put a little too much wildcat in the game and not enough pistol.

The defensive playbooks this year made no apparent improvements and are generally the same as they have been for the past 4 years.  Defensive coordinators are constantly tweaking and changing schemes to keep up with the talent level in the nfl but the madden series takes no note of it.  The developers need to tweak the defensive playbooks at least a little every year.  Defense is half the game, and they have paid no attention to it, instead adding in creative new offensive plays every year and never once changing a blitz angle of a single defender.
